THE POLL BLUDGER GORTON
The north-western Melbourne seat of Gorton was created at the 2004 election in place of abolished Burke, which provided it with 12,000 voters around Sydenham, also taking 38,000 voters around Keilor from Calwell and 20,000 west of Sunshine from Maribyrnong. Burke MP Brendan O'Connor contested the seat for Labor, having gone from a 5.5 per cent margin in Burke to a notional margin of 20.2 per cent in Gorton. He would thus not have been unduly troubled by the 5.3 per cent swing against him. | |
