Chifley covers a stretch of Sydney's western suburbs to the north of the Great Western Highway, from Blacktown and Woodcroft out to Mount Druitt and Tregear. The redistribution has shifted it eastwards, ceding St Marys to Lindsay in the west and exchanging territory with redrawn Greenway, gaining an area of Blacktown in the east and losing Shanes Park in the north. Chifley had a notional Labor margin of just 0.2 per cent when it was created in 1969, but it immediately swung to Labor by 16.6 per cent and has been extremely safe for them ever since. Roger Price came to the seat in 1984 and has not since risen higher than a short-lived parliamentary secretary position in the early 1990s.
