Service resumes

Published by William Bowe at 4:57 pm under General

After five weeks, 22 emails, five endless and massively expensive overseas phone calls, a threat of legal action delivered by international registered post and more foul-mouthed abuse than I have ever heaped upon anyone or anything in all my life, my London-based web host (who shall remain nameless for the time being) has finally corrected the administrative error that has kept this site out of business for the past five days.

    Good to see you back.

Can you reveal what the legal threat was all about?

    Hi PB,

Good to have you back (bad time to go down, but I guess it would have been worse a week earlier). I’m glad that the problem was just the service - I was worried that the defamation suit you alluded to earlier had taken you off air permanently.

I thought you was just bludging!

Why on earth would you host in the old dart? UK servers are notoriously sloooow and unrelaible. Not to mention overpriced (for what they offer).

Plus a US based host would be far more likely to resist any take down notices etc emanating from our draconian anti-free speech govts and their lackey courts.

Re the mother country: Long story, UD. All I’ll say is that it wasn’t a conscious choice on my party. I’m not that silly. Also, good point regarding Australian free speech or lack thereof.

Good grief, I never knew online psephology could be so cut-throat and dramatic! Glad to see you back in business though.

Sam, nothing sets the men apart from the boys like online psephology.

Tassie Rob: the legal threat was about me threatening to sue them if they didn’t put my site back up. Nothing too dramatic I’m afraid.
