Poll Bludger Version 2.0

Published by William Bowe at 3:52 pm under General

Welcome to the new-look, WordPress-powered Poll Bludger, which comes complete with comments and automatic archiving and sundry other delights that I wrongly thought I woudn’t need when I got the ball rolling. I have ironed out the site’s kinks to the extent that it looks okay on Internet Explorer 6.0, but past experience suggests there might still be problems with other browsers. Any issues that could be brought to my attention would be much appreciated. Comments are open on this post and the one previous, so please drop in and say hi.

Looks great. Thank goodness I only have to worry about the content at the ABC and someone else can look after the layout.

Looks fine in every browser I’ve tried. Hopefully the discussions will be interesting and.. er.. non-partisan, or at least cheerfully and intelligently partisan.

Congrats on the new look - seems fine in Firefox. I agree wtih Antony Green about letting someone else look after the layout.

Looks great but I’ve always been more interested in the content than the layout. BTW, you’ve got some pretty positive comments from some pretty impressive comment(ators) already!

Works fine with Firefox and even looks ok for us deep nerds who insist on testing things in Lynx.

Despite claims to the contrary in the code, the document itself is not valid XHTML 1.0 transitional. Which means that it won’t work on all browsers equally, won’t work on all devices and is not future proof.

Still… It will kinda-sorta work for almost all people, almost all the time.

What’s the antonymn for ‘Bludger’? You’re a true trooper William. Should be fun chatting to the other bees that gather here. (Mind you I hope you don’t become too ‘democratic’ - your old site was a legendary resource precisely because it was full of deeply dug and authoritative data and background, and not a graffiti board for wannabe commentators like me.)

    William,

Much nicer - the ability to post comments is something to be praised, although John Quiggin sometimes finds it a headache. Hopefully we can keep it civilised here, too.
Two suggestions - now you have comments and listing showing the most recent comments with a link to the relevant comment is something that tends to stimulate debate and keeps the blog ticking over even in the absence of fresh articles from you. You may want to consider adding one. Both Quiggin and Catallaxy use the facility in WordPress, so it should be easy to add in.
The other useful thing, this time on Quiggin alone, is a comment preview facility. Not sure how he added it, but it does allow for an improved ability to get our comments right.
